The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) celebrated our successful partnership at The Grey Box (GMBB) on the 25^th of May 2023. The event also saw the launch of our ‘Create Your Tomorrow’ initiative that aims to look to the future, and position accountants as agents of change, who will lead us into a better tomorrow.

The partnership is focused on transforming the accountancy profession in Malaysia by creating a community of accountants who are equipped to lead with purpose, drive sustainable growth, and make a positive impact. It also aims to address the shortage of accountant’s issue that the country is facing. The number of registered accountants with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants is only 38,000, despite the projected need for 60,000 accountants by 2020, which Malaysia is now hoping to achieve by 2030.

The MICPA and CA ANZ partnership began in 2009 when both the professional accounting bodies entered into an agreement to offer a joint qualifying programme that leads to two professional qualifications awarded by both bodies – Certified Public Accountant (Malaysia) and Chartered Accountant (ANZ). This alliance is aimed at strengthening the accountancy profession in Malaysia, as well as enhancing the recognition of MICPA in the global accounting community.

The MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme is designed to empower accountants to enhance our skills, knowledge, and capabilities to align with current as well as future industry trends and demands. It will create opportunities for graduates to work in some of the best and most interesting roles all over the world, transforming them into trusted business advisors and advocates of sustainable management.

The ‘Create Your Tomorrow’ initiative, launched by MICPA and CA ANZ, aims to empower accountants to be difference makers and game changers by promoting a forward-thinking mindset and showcasing the diverse skill sets and capabilities of accountants. “Through this initiative, we aim to shift mindsets, challenge stereotypes, and reignite pride in the accountancy profession. We strive to spark conversations that invite accountants and the general public to think beyond the traditional realms of accounting,” said Divian Gangnadharan, Head –Malaysia at CA ANZ. 

“Create Your Tomorrow,” is a call to action, reminding accountants that they have the power to shape their own future and the future of their community and nation. The initiative is an exciting new chapter in the partnership between MICPA and CA ANZ. Together, MICPA and CA ANZ stand to empower current and future accountants, to make a difference by promoting an agile, future-focused education.
